The PlayStation 4 is definitely not hurting for couch co-op games, from the epic adventures of Diablo III to the indie chaos of Overcooked. However, having to stay close to your in-game partner can feel a little confining.
If you want to venture out and do your own thing, while still gaming right next to a friend or loved one, you need a split-screen game. These titles — sometimes cooperative, sometimes competitive — let you play by yourself, but still together. And sometimes, that's just the right amount of distance. Read on for split-screen survival, shooters, sports and more. The game is all about surviving in a harsh wilderness, crafting tools, clothes, food, shelter and whatever else you may need to thrive in a harsh environment.
Where Ark sets itself apart from the rest of the genre, though, is that its world is populated primarily by enormous dinosaurs. If you want to mount a T-rex and strap laser cannons to the beast, you're more than welcome, and it's even more fun with a friend. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on PS4 collects both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and both of them allow two, three or four players to share a local split-screen. In fact, this is arguably the best way to play the game, since each player can choose a different character class, and co-op partners will make relatively short work of the game's myriad challenges.
While you can't experience the cinematic campaign in Call of Duty: WWII with another player, everything else is pretty much fair game. Whether you want to oppose each other or team up in multiplayer matches, you can do it from a split-screen perspective. Even better: You can collaborate in the game's zombie mode, which lets you and a friend experience a campy, imaginative horror story with the tried-and-true Call of Duty control scheme.
If you have fond memories of playing split-screen Halo with friends after school, this isn't terribly different; just a little more grounded in s technology. Old-school RPGs with couch co-op are pretty rare to begin with, but one with split-screen functionality is almost unheard of.
Divinity: Original Sin delivers a single-player experience that most other games in the genre would envy, then goes a little further by offering the entire thing in split-screen co-op. The turn-based combat manages to be both breezy and strategic, but you'll need to invest a long time to finish this long adventure. The first Divinity: Original Sin had couch co-op; you didn't really think the developers would take that feature away, did you?
This RPG sequel — which received even more critical and fan acclaim than the first — casts you once again as a "Sourcerer," who can channel divine magic in order to become better combatants or cast fantastical spells. This time, the player is in contact with a mysterious entity known as the "Godwoken," who guides him or her on a perilous quest across a broken land.
There's adventure, intrigue and friendship — which is appropriate, since you can play the whole thing, start-to-finish, with two players, each of whom has a customized character to control.
Don't Starve is one of those games whose title is also its instruction manual.Xbox: This aggression level is on the whistle wheel, but this will actually cause the aggression level 'Attack My Target' to be set, and it is unknown if this is intended.
Note: Some people may incorrectly refer to this with the popular term 'barrel roll,' rather than the proper and markedly different 'aileron roll.

This is all well and good, and being connected to a vast network of gamers around the world has entirely changed the industry.
So many of us grew up with that sort of experience, and it's a shame that it seems to be being neglected these days. Don't worry, though, nostalgic Switch owners.
From Cuphead to Super Mario Bros. Updated January 26th, by Chris Littlechild: With so many more new and unique games available on the Nintendo Switch, it just makes sense to add more titles. After all, you can't have too many couch co-op gaming parties, right? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the biggest draw, but it had already been released on the Wii U, so the four people around the world who owned one of those were set.
This quirky fighting game sees players take each other on using odd extendable arms. The attention to detail lavished on every inch of the presentation is a plus too. The Switch has far eclipsed anything the poor old Wii U could ever hope to have accomplished. New Super Mario Bros.

U Deluxe arrived in January Players of all experience levels will have a lot of fun journeying through its varied worlds, which really come to life in multiplayer. The latest instalment in the beloved Mario Tennis franchise took things to a different level.
New mechanics like racket HP and the potential to break themzone shots, trick shots and the time-tinkering zone speed allow for a lot of different defensive and offensive strategies to be employed. Players can compete against each other, naturally, but Aces has also added some interesting events more recently. In these, players can join together to take on a challenge defeating Boos to earn coins, for instance and win prizes, which consist of different costumes for characters.
Ah, yes. No heated competition, no rage, no co-operation in an adorable little colorful world. In this Switch launch title, players must work together to solve a range of puzzles. This is done by manipulating the shapes of the two main characters, Snip and Clip.
It also has minigames and a party mode, and was expanded with new modes and levels with the release of Snipperclips Plus standalone or as DLC in November of Generally speaking, couch co-op and multiplayer titles are built around the concept of jut having a little silly fun.

Death means permanent loss, and you can even enslave other players for your own purposes.Ark: Survival Evolved is getting split-screen multiplayer both online and locally on Xbox One, developer Studio Wildcard announced in its upcoming patch notes. The developer previously teased a two-player split-screen co-op mode exclusive to Xbox One in a report from Gamespot last month. At the time Studio Wildcard said split-screen would be local-only and exclusive to the Xbox One version.
We've since asked if this newly announced feature will come to other platforms and possibly support more than two players. We'll update should we hear back.
That all sounds well and good, though our Digital Foundry report the other day noted that Ark's current performance was very rough around the edges. Whether a stable, enjoyable experience can be delivered remains to be seen, but with gameplay concepts and ideas as strong as these, we certainly hope so.
Of course this poor early build performance hasn't stopped Ark: Survival Evolves from shifting over 2m copies on Steam Early Access, and it's now available on the Xbox Game Preview Programme.
Studio Wildcard still has half a year to get its game in order as an official release on PS4, Xbox One and Steam isn't expected until summer. Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. For more information, go here.

Global Achievements. So the devs mentioned split screen for PC ages ago, which was a feature that I was really looking forward to. Now it's only for the windows 10 store verion and a "maybe" for the steam version.
Really hoping we can get this added to the steam version and I'm sure there are other people who want this as well! Showing 1 - 10 of 10 comments. Hi everyone, I'm trying to do a local splitscreen 2 player game. They're both spawning in different PlayerStart since I figured out that adding a second PlayerStart will automatically spawn the second player there.
I made a copy of the "MyCharacter" Blueprint since I want my second player to have a different mesh, different camera that follows him, and different controls.
The first character is set in GameMode and is the default pawn class. The issue is that I don't know how to link "MyCharacter2" to the second [CreatePlayer] in my level Blueprint so it doesn't use the first "MyCharacter". Last edited by Mistral ;PM. Tags: None. Hi, I recently had a similar issue and if memory serves me right im not in front of my machine to test I got rid of the playerstarts and instead drug out the BP of the 2 different characters.
Then in level blueprint I put in a couple reference nodes to the characters and on an event begin play or maybe a tick event I did possess' of the two characters each with of course the different controller ID.
I will test and repost when I get home if you dont get it figured out. Hope it helps.
Comment Post Cancel. Well, I think I understand what you are saying, but I can't seem to figured it out or make it work. If you could show me what the blueprint should look like, it will be very helpful thanks. Hi Mistral Can you try below setup: Attached Files. Any idea why i have clones of both my characters though? Try unchecking Spawn Pawn in Create Player.
I tried different method of unclicking the spawn pawn in create Player with no success so far, i still have clones of my characters floating in the air : 1- unclicked spawn pawn on both : character1 is working, have his clone floating in the air, character2 screen is black 2- unclicked spawn pawn on 1st char : both character are working, both screen work, both have clone of themselves 3- unclicked spawn pawn on 2nd char : character1 is working, have his clone floating in the air, character2 screen is black 4 -clicked spawn pawn on both char : both character are working, both screen work, both have clone of themselves floating in the air In WorldSettings, GameMode Override : MyGame is selected MyCharacter is the default spawn class selected.
